Hellerwork Structural Integration is a series of eleven 90 minutes sessions of deep tissue bodywork and movement education designed to realign the body and release chronic tension and stress. Verbal dialogue is used to assist the client in becoming aware of emotional stress that may be related to physical tension. Fascia: Hellerwork affects the body's network of connective tissue called fascia. Fascia is plastic-like tissue that wraps all of the muscles and all of the individual fibers and bundles of individual fibers that become muscle. Fascia comes together at the end of the muscle and becomes the tendon, which attaches the muscle to the bone. Fascia's optimal condition is loose and moist. But under continual stress and lack of movement, fascia becomes rigid and loses its fluidity. Layers of fascia glue together causing knots, based on our habitual patterns of movement. How Did My Body Get This Way? What is it that causes people to physically shorten over time, that makes people get twisted and compressed into postures that cannot change by themselves, and that makes people move more and more slowly and with less and less comfort as they age? Connective tissue (fascia) holds our bodies in their contracted form, and movement patterns determine the particular form in which they get stuck. There are three main factors that cause our movement patterns to become imbalanced. They are 1) ongoing physical stress, 2) ongoing attitudes and emotions and 3) incidents of physical trauma. Eg. carrying a brief case on one side of the body, feeling depressed and sinking in the chest, sports and other injuries. The Three Main Components of Hellerwork 1) Deep connective tissue bodywork: This is a "hands on" process, using deep tissue and myofascial release to release tension, through loosening and lengthening the fascia. This reduces pain, increases range of motion, slows deterioration associated with aging and speeds recovery from injuries and surgery. Each session focus's on a different area of the body. Sessions one to three are releasing the superficial layers, sessions four to seven focus on releasing the core and the final four are integrative. 2) Movement Education: Through addressing how to use your body in your normal daily activities, (eg. sitting at the computer or in the car, walking, sports activities etc.) you gain awareness and knowledge of your habitual movement patterns, which result in poor posture and chronic muscular tension an d discover easier, fuller, stress-free ways of moving. 3) Dialogue: Helps you become aware of the relationship between your emotions and attitudes and your body. You can gain insights into how your attitudes and beliefs influence your body and choices in life. With increased awareness you are better able to adapt to changes and find healthy solutions in stressful situation. Each session has a theme that highlights the more common attitudes and emotions that are associated with the area of the body that is worked on.ss For more details go to Hellerwork International.
